Keyboard shortcut to open window's mobility center - Cool Keyboard

Here is another secret shortcut for window vista and window 7 users. This shortcut can be used to open Window Mobility Center. Windows Mobility Center is a component of Microsoft Windows, that centralizes the most relevant information to mobile computing.

The Windows Mobility Center user interface presents a series of square tiles that each contain one piece of information about a component of the system, as well as action items related to that component. The tiles that appear depend on the system. Windows Vista includes the following tiles:

  • Brightness adjustment
  • Sound adjustment / mute
  • Battery level / power scheme selection
  • Wireless network status
  • Screen orientation (portrait or landscape)
  • External displays
  • Synchronization to other machines
  • Presentation settings



Window mobility center presents in control panel. To open it directly you can use keyboard shortcut Window key + X.

Shortcut to minimize all windows except the one working window - Cool Shortcuts

Here is one cool shortcut which i found accidentally on yesterday. I am doing internship in HCL yesterday i was working there was writing some code and it was not working. What i did in frustration, I click on top of that window n shacked it. What happened next astonished me. After then i realized i found a new secret shortcut of windows 7 to minimize all windows except the one in which you are working.





Here are the steps for this shortcut, this shortcut is useful while working with multiple applications.

Do try this shortcut follow these steps:

step1: Open up multiple windows of any choice ( like notepad, paint , browser ...).

step2: Click on top of any of the window and shake it twice ( just hold your mouse button and move left to right and right to left twice quickly).

step3: you will notice that, all other windows getting minimized.

step4: Also if u do that again, you can restore all the windows back.


Unfortunately this trick doesn't work with window Vista and XP, it is only useful for Window7 users.

Simple tips to select Text quickly in MS word

Below are some tips to slect text quicky in MS Word, this is really very useful and very handy. This is a great feature of microsoft word and most of the users are unknown of this selecting style. Here are instructions to selct text:



Select a word:
Double click on any part of the word.

Select a line:
Click the left margin next to the line.

Select a sentence:
Hold down the CTRL key, then click anywhere in the sentence.

Select a paragraph:
Triple click any word within the paragraph.

Select the whole document:
Triple click in the left margin, or hold down the CTRL key, then click anywhere in the left margin. Yet another method you can use is to hold down the CTRL key, then press the letter A.

Make a vertical text selection:
Hold down the ALT key, then drag the mouse up.

Dialog box keyboard shortcuts

Here are some keyboard shortcut keys combination for dialog boxes, you can use these on any type of dialog box. It makes work faster..


CTRL+TAB (Move forward through the tabs)

CTRL+SHIFT+TAB (Move backward through the tabs)

TAB (Move forward through the options)

SHIFT+TAB (Move backward through the options)

ENTER (Perform the command for the active option or button)

SPACEBAR (Select or clear the check box if the active option is a check box)

Arrow keys (Select a button if the active option is a group of option buttons)

F1 key (Display Help)

F4 key (Display the items in the active list)

BACKSPACE (Open a folder one level up if a folder is selected in the Save As or Open dialog box)

Use keyboard shortcut to safely remove Hardware (Pendrives)




If you use pendrives frequently and find bit typical to click on the task bar and then safely remove the pendrive then here is a trick for you to create a shortcut for safely removal of pendrives. Just follow given steps:

1). Right click on desktop, Go to new -> shortcut..
2). In Create shortcut window, Type RunDll32.exe shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL hotplug.dll.

3). Click next and then .
shortcut is created.
Now you can use this shortcut to remove pendrive or you can assign a shortcut key to it.
For assigning shortcut key,
1). Right click on shortcut icon.
2). Select properties.
3). In properties window, click on shortcut tab.
4). Assign a shortcut key to it(it will take clrt + alt by default)eg: if you press A shortcut will be ctrl+alt+A.

5). Click ok.

Its done.
Now you can use your keyboard shortcut key to safely remove your pendrives.

Keyboard shortcuts for VLC media player



  • VLC is one of the common media player. It can play almost every known media format. So here are shortcuts keys for VLC media player. If you are keyboard lover, love to use keyboard more than mouse then just try these shorcuts.

  • Ctrl+ Up/Down Arrow – Increase or Decrease the volume.
  • Ctrl+ Left/Right Arrow – Forward or Rewind the video.
  • A – Toggle video in different aspect ratios;
  • C – Crop the Video;
  • F – Switch to fullscreen and exit fullscreen.
  • G – Subtitle delay, hitting it inserts a 50ms delay, twice 100ms delay and so on.
  • H – This works as reverse process for G.
  • J - Audio delay of -50ms every time you hit ‘J’
  • K – Reverse of ‘J’, i.e. hit ‘K’ to get a +50ms audio delay.
  • M – Mute or un-mute.
  • N – Play next track from the playlist.
  • P – Play the Previous track in the playlist.
  • S – Stop playback
  • T – Show Time played/ Time left
  • V – Enable subtitles (if available).
  • Z – Zoom in and Zoom out.

Google Buzz keyboard Shortcuts



If you are using google buzz and like to use keyboard more than mouse, then use these keyboard keys for buzzing. Here are some keyboard shortcuts use them..




Make sure that Keyboard shortcut turned on in your gmail account, If it is turned off then you can enable it by clicking turn on keyboard shortcuts in general tab of settings of your gmail account.



Shortcuts:

gb - open Google Buzz in Gmail inbox.Bold

n - goto newer or next conversation.

p - goto previors or older conversation.

j - scroll through displayed conversations or items.

o - open or expand any conversation.

r - add comment to any conversation.

ShifBoldt + l - like a conversation.

Spacebar - page down action

Shift + Spacebar - page up action.

Add Window explorer or Folder to Taskbar - Cool Computer Tricks



If you use some folder very frequently and tired of browsing to find file your files, Then just add that explorer or folder to taskbar, It will display an icon on taskbar which open that folder when clicked. Here are steps:

1). Right-click on the taskbar on the space between Start Menu and the Tray.

2). Click Toolbars and then New Toolbar.
3). New Toolbar Window opens with a list of folders, Select the desired location and click OK.


The task bar now displays an icon for the access of your selected destination, just with a click.

Creating Keyboard shortcuts to open files, folder or browser

You can create a keyboard shortcut that can automatically open a folder, a program or a word file or any application or browser through your keyboard even when you have other windows like Internet explorer, Office maximized. This is very simple trick and very usful save lots of time. Here are steps:

1). Create a shortcut of the folder / program / file on the desktop.
2). Right click the shortcut on the desktop, and then click Properties.
3). In the Properties dialog box, click the Shortcut tab.
4). Now in the Shortcut key textbox, enter a key combination for example CTRL+ALT+R or CTRL+SHIFT+R or whatever you like.


Its done.

Now when you hit the key combination just specified, the folder / program / file will open even if other program windows are maximized.

Gtalk Chat Shortcut - Cool Computer Tricks

If you chat very frequently with one of your friend then now you can make gtalk chat shortcut on your desktop. It willl initiate a chat with only one click. On click it opens a chat window where you can chat with your friend. But unfortunately this trick works only in window xp nt in window vista.

Here are steps to follow:

1) Right click on your desktop and go to New > Shortcut.

2) In create shortcut window, type gtalk:chat?jid=username@gmail.com. Where username is gmail id of your friend.

3) Click ok.

Its done.

You can also make shortcut to call your friend for that you have to write gtalk:call?jid=username@gmail.com.

Create Shortcut to restart computer - Cool Computer Trick


Create shortcut to restart computer on your desktop, To create shortcut follow these steps:
1) Go to desktop, Right click on it.
2) Select New >> Shortcut.
3) In new shortcut wizard window type "shutdown -r -t 01" in location.

4) Click Next.
5) Give any name to shortcut, I gave shutdown.
6) Click OK.
Its done.
now you can use this shortcut to restart your computer.
